I was a double major in Art History and English Lit, so I loved researching and writing the biography of this major player in the American Abstract Expressionist movement. Readers will learn how the artist began painting and some of his techniques and work habits. In addition, I didn’t shy away from my subject’s lifestyle and drinking, and focused on their effects on his art, health, and relationships. Black-and-white photos of de Kooning and color reproductions of his work are included. (Ages 9 and up)
